Physical Therapy for Dogs in Williams Lake

Canine rehabilitation is a rapidly growing field that helps to maximize your dog’s potential and recovery following injury or surgery, as well as supporting general mobility as he or she ages. To offer effective physical therapy for dogs at our Williams Lake Veterinary Hospital, we have available a variety of modalities and equipment to treat your pet, such as:

  • Ultrasound and laser therapy to relieve pain and promote soft tissue healing
  • Electrical muscle stimulation to retrain or strengthen weak muscle tissue
  • A treadmill to retrain gait or help with weight loss
  • Balance equipment to improve core stability and reflexes

Certain ligament injuries can also be stabilized with custom braces or orthotics if surgery is not an option.

Conditions and Rehabilitation

Common conditions that can be aided with physiotherapy and rehabilitation are:

  • Post-ligament surgery
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Muscle and tendon strains and sprains
  • Back and neck problems due to disc disease or degeneration
  • Arthritis, especially in the back, hips, knees, shoulders and elbows

All of these conditions can usually be improved by physiotherapy, using a combination of the modalities we use, along with a program of stretches and strength exercises, which we can teach owners for ongoing maintenance. All exercise programs are tailored for each dog and owner to accommodate all ages, breeds, and activity levels from couch potatoes to weekend warriors to working and sporting dogs.

Canine physiotherapy can also help some other less common conditions of neurological origin such as wobblers, or degenerative myelopathy, and vestibular disease (dizziness) that often occurs in elderly patients.

Most dogs are very accepting of their rehabilitation programs and seem to enjoy the exercises, so come visit us!
